I Love You Like A Donut

I am excited to tell you about my new favorite picture book—I Love You Like a Donut! But rather than having me explain it, I had the joy of interviewing the author—my friend, Theresa Borst.

How did you get the idea for this sweet story?

I owned two Christian preschools for twenty-two years, and one of my beloved teachers, Ms. Bridgett, had a special phrase she loved to share with our students: “I love you like a donut—it goes round and round and never stops.” The children loved her saying, especially when she added playful hand motions that mimicked the circular motion of a donut. It always brought smiles and giggles to our classroom.

During story time, I loved introducing authors and encouraging the students by telling them they could write their own books someday.  Inspired by Ms. Bridgett’s saying and with her blessing, and my own desire to  write a book, I decided to create a story centered on the idea of never-ending love, focusing on the affectionate bond between a mama bear and a little cub using her playful words as the heart of the message.

What do you hope readers will learn or take away?

I hope the readers will take away a joyful feeling of love between mother and child. I hope they want to read the book over and over again and that it quickly becomes a favorite bedtime story. I hope the expression of “I love you like a donut” and the playful poem becomes a sentiment that Mama and Child can tell each other in a fun way throughout their day creating memories and a deep connection of love.

The illustrations are adorable! Tell us a little bit about the illustrator.

I searched for an illustrator that could tell my story line through beautiful colorful vibrant pictures. It was most important to me that a reader could see the love displayed through the character’s eyes. After much research I found Mousam on Fiverr and I instantly fell in love with his work.

This is his bio: Mousam Banerjee is a full time artist and illustrator with a passion for bringing stories to life through vibrant and imaginative visuals. With a Post Graduate Diploma in Fine Arts, his work is characterized by vibrant colors and dynamic compositions. He has collaborated on projects ranging from children’s books and editorial pieces to realistic concept art.  You can reach out to him at www.illus-station.com or www.instagram.com/illusstation.kids and you can check out his books on: https://www.amazon.com/s?

Where can readers find your book?

At the current time this book is being offered through Amazon and Ingram Spark. My hope is that libraries, bookstores, donut shops, and preschools will allow me to present my book, and they will order it to be displayed at their locations.

Tell us a little about yourself.

I was raised in Michigan where I taught and directed preschool for twenty-two years. I was trained in Early Child Development and love to teach children. My passion is for children to know how much God loves them. I enjoy children of preschool age and taught over five hundred students in my teaching career. I now live in Florida with my husband. I enjoy visiting my children and grandchildren in Colorado, Ohio, and Michigan.

Thank you, Theresa. I know our readers will fall in love with this sweet story.

Spoiler alert—the ending brought a tear to my eyes.

Here’s to loving little ones like a donut!

I’m happy to give this book 5 smiles! 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂
